THE WENDY HUT OUR CHILDREN’S CORNER

My clear Children,— It has long been said that the Land of Make-believe is always very full of surprises, and so is the Land of Reality, too. For instance, in my mail to-day, I was very agreeably surprised to receive a letter that I have published in order to show just how our page is read, not only by the members of our elan, but by other folk as well. This knowledge serves to demonstrate the necessity I have always endeavoured to impress on all my band to always do one’s very best. Many months, or is it years ago? our “Old Gran.” so sadly missed these days from our ranks, wrote to you that in all things we must always do our “bestest. best.” Now, as then, the need is more than ever present to give of our very best, lor when it, is seen that so worthy a reader as “I’nele Wai.” of (lie Children’s Garden Circle, peruses our page and all it contains, our best, must be a very “bestest, best I” “ (Tnele Wai,” you will notice, writes in respect to ‘‘Aunty’s” letter, which appeared in a recent issue, telling us all about the very wonderful time she spent amid the scenes so loved by her. I nele M all, too, remembers those scenes of his youth spent in the “City of the Plains,” and wonders if perchance be knows any of our esteemed “Aunty’s” folk. 1 wonder? However, soon, no doubt, we will hear, after our worthy grown-ups have compared notes. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if they can recall aequaintanceshin, and our page has been the medium by which “I’nele Wai” and •‘Aunty” have crimed the years? Let me publish the letter:— Brunswick Road. Dear Wendv.- I lur e just finished reading “ Aunty s ’ very interesting letter of her holiday visit to Christehnreh, and her mentioning the names of the different places visited, brought back tn my mind the very happy recollections I. niyseli, have of the same places. You see, I also, was born in that little town. 60-odd years ago, so am able to compare it to what it was then and to the fine city it is now. I wonder, if perchance, I knew any of ‘'Aunty's” people? lam verv pleased that ‘‘Aunty” thoroughly enjoyed her holiday ami that, her healfn bad greatly improved as the result, of her trip. The, best of wishes to all the \\ cmlyites.—lours sincerely, W. THIELK (‘‘Vucic AAal. ’ i J-T.i.) And now. dears, my surprise for you this Letterland Bay is that lam going to leave you for one whole fortnight I A es. I am at last going to have a real holiday. Oh, no. your page will still be published as usual and I will still be with you. biff cnly in Make believe. It will be real Make believe, too, for I will be manv, many miles away. lam going to attend Gm. North Island Air Pageant at New Plymouth, then Au-klaml. ami later Rotorua ami all its never-emling wonders. I thought I would just pop in. as usual, in Make-believe, of course, to assure you that the Old Witch hadn’t me in her clutches ami carried me off to some, very dark and deep dungeon as is her wont. 1 will, of course, h.Tve the protection of Sir Richard Elf and Sir Ernest Endeavour, with our two trusty knights to guard me I have little to fear. However. I will keep watch for the Old AViteh. nevertheless. Cheerio, mv cherubs, all my warmest love and kisses, from your cYcr affectionate. —
