COMPETITION CONCLUDES. ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNERS. The “If You Could Only Cook” competition promoted by the Majestic Theatre was brought- to a conclusion on Wednesday, and an announcement of the winners was made last night at the theatre by the Mayor of Wanganui (Mr. W. These prizes will be posted to winners. Associated with the Mayor on the stage were Mr. R. Forbes, general manager of Columbia Pictures, and Mr. A. (’. Ashford, manager of the Majestic Theatre. Mr. Forbes, in asking the Mayor to make the presentations, said that similar competitions were promoted in Auckland and Wellington, but in neither case did they catch on like it had in Wanganui, where some 200 entries had been received. He conveyed the thanks of his company to all concerned. ‘‘The management ask me, on their behalf, to thank the judges of this contest for their painstaking efforts,” said Mr. Rogers. “Undoubtedly the number of entries exceeded all expectations, and the quality of all made the task of the judges’ exceedingly difficult. ■Some idea of just how unenviable their job was can be grasped from the fact that judging occupied six solid hours. Each and every entrant can be assured that their entry received the most careful consideration from these two most competent and obliging ladies, Miss Wallace and Mrs. Connor. “Thanks and congratulations for their co-operation and enterprise must also be extended to the following firms who sponsored this successful contest: Citv Gas Department, Messrs. Kernohan’s, Ltd., Mason. Struthers and Co., Ltd., Cuthbertson and Lee, Ltd.. Wangaehu Co-op. Dairy Co., Ltd. Lastly, I would like to congratulate each and evry entrant on their manificent efforts. Naturally, all could not win. prizes, but those who have not may. in some measure, be compensated by the knowledge that a very meagre margin of points separted them from the actual J prize-winners. * ’
