WEATHER FORECAST
Meteorological Office, Wellington, Friday, March 13, 1 p.m. General Situation.—An anti-cyclone covers New Zealand, with highest pressure over the North Island. A rather intense depression is moving from south-east Australia on to the south-west Tasman fc>ea. Forecast.—Winds: Mainly light to moderate and variable at first, but strong northerly to westerly in the far south, northerlies soon becoming general and gradually freshening about and south of Cook Strait. Seas (N.Z. watersj: Rough in the far south, elsewhere slight to moderate but later rising on the west coast of the South Island and in the Cook Strait area. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate and variable winds in the northern portion, gradually tending northerly with slight to moderate seas; freshening northerly to north-westerly winds ami rising seas in the central and southern portions. Weather: Fair to fine generally at first, but some rain in the far south and south-west. Later conditions becoming unsettled in western districts from Taranaki southwards with rain developing. Temperatures rising, especially in eastern districts. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. .John’s Hill, report for 21 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 7 hours. Rainfall, nil. Shade temperatures: Maximum, 70de.g. Fahr.; minimum, 46dcg. Fahr. Time of sunset to-day, 6.45 p.m. Time of sunrise to-morrow, 6.16 a.m. Phases of the Moon for March:—Full moon. March 8; last quarter, larch 16; new moon, mareh 23; first quarter, March 30.
