PEDIGREE PIGS

SAI«E AT PALMERSTON NORTH. Under the auspices of Ihe Manawatu Oroua branch of th-e New Zealand Pig Breeders’ Association, the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., held ils annual autumn sale of pedigree pigs at Palmerston North on Thursday when a large catalogue c-f quality pigs was offered. Thu growing popularity of these fixtures was evidenced by the fact that the offering at this sale constituted a record for the number of entries received and also that buyers were attracted from Wairarapa, Hawke’s Bay, Taranaki, Waikato and Bay c-f Plenty districts. Messrs. E. P. Nielsen and W. P. Bickers, the inspectors appointed by the Breeders’ Association, commented favourably on the general quality of the yarding and had occasion to reject but a small percentage of the animals brought forward. Good quality animals of all breeds met with a ready market, though young pigs and those of inferior quality were not sought after. The demand for good sows, ready for service, was particularly noticeable throughout the sale. Of the various breeds the inquiry was strongest for large blacks, Mr. J. Morgan, of Weraroa, securing the top price of 15gns. for a particularly choice sow. Berkshires were second in favour, Tamworths and large whites meeting with slower competition. Prices realised were on the whole not quite up to expectations, nevertheless, fully 75 per cent, of the yarding changed hands at prices satisfactory to vendors. Following is the list of some of the tales effected.— Bersksire. On account Mr. \V. H. Gibson (Cunninghams).—bow, Mr. O. V. Clausen (Foxtou line), Gfgns.; sow, Mr. J.
