WEATHER FORECAST
Meteorological Office, Wellington, Monday, March 9, 4 p.m. General Situation.— An extensive and intense low pressure area lies over and east of the Dominion while an anti-cyclone covers most of the Tasman. Forecast. —Winds: South-westerly to southerly, strong to gale loree. Seas (New Zealand waters): High south of East Cape and on the west coast of the North Island; elsewhere rough. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong southerly- winds to gales with rough to high seas, but wind and sea gradually decreasing. Weather.—Cold and unsettled, squally with intermittent rain in most districts and on the ranges snow; further heavy rains likely in eastern areas and about Cook Strait, hail in places. Conditions gradually moderating, however, from the westward. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 6 hours 50 minutes. Rainfall, .42 inches. Shade temperatures: Maximum, 63deg. Fahr.; minimum, 48deg. Fahr. Time of sunset to-day, 6.52 p.m. Time of sunrise to-morrow, 6.11 a.m. Phases of the Moon for March:—Full moon, March 8; last quarter, March 16; new moon, inarch 23; first quarter, March 30.
