£600 THEFT
WINDOW SMASHED. ; ALBURY, Feb. 4. j Jewellery valued at £6OO, carefully ■ selected by the thieves, was stolen from • a shop window early this morning by, > it is believed, an intef-State gang, . which rushed back to Melbourne in a car thought to have been taken from that city. “The Pivot” jewellery store, in i Dean Street, owned by Mr. C. 11. Smith —the largest of its kind in the south—- [ was the scene of the theft, about 4.15 ■ a.m. The lights are turned out before • midnight in the main street. It is estimated that valuables worth about £3OOO were in the windows of “The Pivot” store. Though Mrs. Smith, wife of the proprietor, was sleeping above the shop, she did not hear any disturbance. About 4.10 a.m. a man in the vicinity heard the noise of a breaking window, and five minutes later a window-cleaner found that the plateglass window had been shattered with a hammer.
