'The Sun’s Canberra correspondent states that rapid progress has been j made in the trade treaty negotiations between Australia and Japan. 'A pre- , liminary agreement on many points has bees reached between the Japanese Con-sul-General, Air. Murai, and Sir H. Gul lett and it is anticipated that a draft agreement will be ready for submission to the Government at a very early date. It is understood that Japan, in view of her adverse trade balance with Australia, sought concessions on a number of manufactured articles, including , textiles, clothing, toys and foodstuffs. Australia is prepared to give certain concessions, the extent of which are unknown.
