MOTOR TOURING

LITTLE TROUBLE MET EXPERIENCE OF GARAGES. From inquiries made vesterdav it w-ij evident that the Christmas and Neu I Year holidays failed to produce many I major repair jobs for the garage pro I prietors of Wanganui. Naturally, there! were many minor jobs brought' in but considcnng the heavy volume of road traffic this holiday season the amount ol work was not, considerable. <>ne garage proprietor infornx-d a r<porter yesterday thaf he had had manv minor repairs to carry out during tinholiday period for tourists. One quite large repair job had come his wav but otherwise business in the repair ‘ line was not brisk. However, he had di* posed of large quantities of petrol ami 1 oil an<l had mended quite a number of punctures. The proprietor of a <ity service station said that his pumps* had handled a greater amount of petrol than during the corresponding period of last year. Fortunately there was little repair work brought to him for touring motorists always required rush jobs and were chagrined at any delay on the road. He considered that there aa* far more motor-cars on the joad than for several years and the number of old vehicles that had pulled in at. his service station was surprising. Another feature of the holiday traffic was the number of motorists who were taking trailers and caravans with them, some of the latter vehicles being luxurious affairs with every convenience likely to be required. Another garage owner attributed the decrease in repair work at his garage to the number of new cars on the road. The greater percentage of vehicles that had secured petrol and oil from him were no more than throe years old. while 1936 model vehicles were also represented in large numbers. His sales of petrol and oil were good, but the repair work was very light, consisting mostly of minor adjustment.-.
