The Thames Jockey Club’s an trial ' meeting opened to-day in overcast but fine and warm weather before a good attendance. The track was in good order, though slightly soft after rain. The chief stipendiary, Mr. C. Gomer, leld an inquiry into the running of ‘ Mafeking in the Trial Handicap. The explanation that owing to the late ar- ' rival of the h >rse it ran without plates, slipping badly, was accepted. An inquiry was also held into the handling , of Tassau in the Puriri Handicap by J. Winder, but was adjourned till Satur- , day morning. The totalisator handled £9216 10s. j compared with £8662 10s on the first ] day last year.
