“WHITE HORSE INN”

A KALEIDOSCOPE OF COLOUR BEAUTIFUL FROCKINQ In n White Horse Inn,” which opened its season in Wanganui last evening, theatre-goers saw a wellstaged musical play with a picturesque Tyrolean atmosphere and delightful frocking. Miss Komola Hansen, who plays the leading role, made her first appearance in a Tyrolean frock of eiel blue taffetas, with floral bands edged with silver inset in the foot of the skirt, and a white fringed fichu on the bodice. An embossed cream georgette apron, edged with silver, made a dainty finish. Another attractive frock was in the same Tyrolean fashion and was made with a full skirt of black taffetas banded with red, green and gold, the short black bodice being finished with white guimpe at the neck and sleeves and a fringed fichu of red and black brocade. A gold lace apron and bright red ribbons completed one of the most attractive frocks in the play. « {Striking in its colouring was a frock made with a very full short wired skirt of heavy cream silk, hand-em-brodered with flowers and inset with a wide band of floral silk edged with emerald green satin and gold inching. The corselet bodice was laced with gold. A dainty fragment on an apron embroidered with blue and gold at the hem and a hat repeating the colouring of the frock completed a most effective costume. Very attractive also was a frock of green satin made with a short full skirt inset with bands of bright embroidered cloth. The corsage was made with full sleeves and fichu of cream brocade edged with cream fringe, and Miss Hansen also wore this with an apron of coarse cream. German crochet lace ''banded with pink and gold ribbon. Her green Alpine hat was finished with a saury cluster of feathers at one side. Miss Hansen looked charming, also, in a frock made with a quilted skirt of mauve satin, very short and full, and bordered in a brilliant hand-painted floral design. The corselet bodice was laced with line silver chains, with silver buttons on each side. A dainty finish was given by the fringed fichu of cyclamen soft silk and hand-painted apron. Another attractive figure was Miss Miriam Lester. Her first appearance was made in a dusky pink suit with a little pink hat to mutch, touched with brown. A further frock was of French blue georgette worn with a coatee of sapphire blue velvet and smart little blue hat to tone. Apple green taffetas was chosen for a picture frock, .the circular skirt being finished with deep frills. \\ itli it was worn a pink silk coatee, long taffetas frills falling from the elbow-length loose sleeves. A large wide-brimmed green and pink hat was worn with this frock. Also charming was a frock of soft cream patterned net, the skirt ending in two deep frills and worn with a cherry coatee. Net frills finished the long sleeves and a little cherry-coloured hat trimmed with cherries completed the ensemble. A graceful frock was of smoke grey georgette and lace, a wide flounce finishing the skirt and a narrow frill edging the low-cut corsage. With it was worn a large picture hat ot the same grey lace. A facsimile of this frock was worn by Miss Marie Ann Conan. Another of .Miss Conan's frocks was of cornflower blue and red patterned georgette worn with a coatee and poke bonnet to match, while one of her appearances was in a cream and mauve swimming suit, made with a short pleated skirt. Colourful Tyrolean costumes were also worn by both Miss Lester and Miss Conan. As the postmistress, Miss Yvonne Banvard was seen in a smart Tyrolean costume of deep blue cloth, with bands of green inset ' the skirt, and a coatee of green cloth with tangerine collar and facings on the small pockets. Her apron was of puce and black figured silk. The ballets, the chorus, the dress parade and the different seis nil helped to make “White Horse Inn” a memorable kaleidoscope of colour, movement, variety and beauty.
