The Berlin correspondent of the Times says there is lively speculation as a result of a series of conferences between high officers of ’he army, navy and air force and representatives of the “5.5.,” namely, tne Nazi Black Uniformed Guards, and the “5.A.,” namely, the Brown Shirt commands. The Press is completely silent, bit it is recalled that similar conferences were head a year ago when it was slated that the obj “.‘v wa ? to demon-.Lrate io the nation the unity of the new G . many in the face of lying fore.gn reports of friction among the lenders. There is reason to believe that lhe present conferences are dealing < with causes of friction which arc known still to exist between the armed forces aid fi’ies like the and “S.A. ’’ mere directly identified with lhe Nazi movement. It is known that the army is closely watching :Lj which provides Herr Hitler’s bodyguard and whose standing for*es a"? stated to number 16,000 div’.d.rl into four regiments stationed in differparts ot Germany. They a r o armed with liflps, machine-guns and armoured guss, and also have artillery v.uu-. There are also between 20000(1 and 300,000 unarmed reservists. They are the elec of the Nazi movement anl uphiller.s of its principles in the most ridizal form. It is believed that ’bey a r e dis satisfied with their status in relation to the army. There is no suggestion that the stability of the regiment is immediately threatened but it is believed that it. will now become necessary in the inand definite understandings about the terests of stability to arrive at clear and definite understandings about the spheres of competence and authority. So far, it is understood, no conclu-ioes have been reached, but the conferences are continuing.
