The picture is ' based ou the story by George Bricker, 1 tor many years a newspaper writer, ! and depicts all the thrills and glamor 1 and excitement in the work of a re- ' porter who is constantly threatened by ‘ gamblers who try lo bribe and intimi- ' date him. James Dunn has the role of J the sports writer. Claire Dodd is the 1 selfish wife and Patricia Ellis a newspaper woman genuinely in love with him. Duun is fired from his job when , he censes in bis attack on the ace " gambler, a part pkiyed by Alan Dine- 1 lait, and i s praeticallv down and out 1 when Frankie Darro, as a jockey whom 1 ’e and befriended tips him off to a ] frame-up in the big race of the som-oii ’ ! rt Florey directed the picturo 1 from the screen play by George Bricker and Joel Sayre. ’ “Shipmates Forever’’ • hipmatcs Forever,’’ commencing at the Majestic Theatre on Satnrdav, is an intimate and revealing story of the lives o f the mitfehipnieu in their study rooms at Annapolis, on the parade grounds, and their cruises at sea. Il pictures them at work and jilav; their loves and their laughter; thvir loyalty and their courage “under fire.’’ Dick Powell ami Ruby Keeler bead the cast. While the picture is not a musical, several new songs are introduced by Powell in his' role as a night club entertainer. All wore composed by the famous song-writing team of Warren and Duubin. The chief of them is a marching song “Don’t Give up the Ship.”
