FALL OF GRAVEL

MARRIED MAN KILLED. [ Per Pieua Association. J INVERCARGILL, Jan. 14. Mr. John Dawson, aged 49, of the Gorge Road, was killed this afternoo.i through being caught in a fall of gravel in’ a pit. With a son and two other men Mr. Dawson was filling gravel from the Gorge Road pit into a lorry which was backed against a gravel face nineteen feet high. The face suddenly gave way on one side of the lorry, catching Mr. Dawson and another workman named George Duncan. The latter jumped aside and though caught about the legs escaped unhurt. Mr. Dawson tried to evade the falling gravel, but was almost covered. He was soon extricated but died within ten minutes.
