FIRE IN TIMBER MILL

The most serious fire since the earthquake took place at 8 o'clock last night, when a timber mill at Port Ahuriri belonging to Manson and (’lark, xxas extensively damaged. The loss is estimated at. £lO,OOO. The plant and a large quantity of dressed timber are, a complete loss, also a number of buildings. The fire spread over three-quar-ters of an acre and was fought throughout the night by rhe Port ami Napier brigades. Fortunately there xvas no wind, and the flames were confined to the mill and dressed timber. Other [large quantities nf timber, the offiee. ami adjacent houses were saved. I It xvas late shopping night in Napier • but the glow in the sky attracted thou|sands. The timber laden railway [trucks were promptly rolled out of danIger and one, motor truck was saved.
