Sale of Dombey. The New Plymouth trainer R. Barlow was in Tawera during last week and he effected the purchase of Dombey from the Waverley spcrt<=man Air. W. C. Simson. Dombey will b-e taken to New Plymouth. A live-year-old brown gelding by Alercian King from Silver Strand, Dombey began racing as a three-year-old in the interests of Air. H. E. Troutbeck and he was trained at Awapuni by Luke Wilson. In his first season he started on -eight for one first, three seconds and two thirds, winning £l7O in stakes. He then went into J. H. Jefferd’s stable and at his fin-t appearance last season was a winner. la eight starts subsequently he secured a first and a second and was then offered at auction, being ptfrchased by Air. Simeon for 140 gns. He entered W. Grindlay’s stable at Hawera, but was unplaced in each of his four starts later that season. So far this season lie has raced on only four occasions, showing encouraging form for a first and a third. In all, he has started on 24 occasions for four firsts, three eecc-nds and four thirds, winning £358 in stakes. Dombey is a decidedly useful sort and should do well for his new- owner. Although he has shown proficiency in his schooling efforts, Dombey will not be tried as a hurdler lor a while j-e*.
