ELECTRIC LIGHT SPORTS

CYCLING AND RUNNING. WEDNESDAY ’»S BIG ATTRACTION. ON COOK’S GARIDENS. Athletes from Hawera, Taihape. Palmaston, North. Feilding, Alarton, and Wanganui will be competing at the electric light sports to be held on -Cook’s Gardens next Wednesday evening. The cycling events should prove good entertainment. Special interest will centre in the races between Wade, of Wanganui, Lawrence, of Palmerston North, and Jack Guilliard, of Taihape. The Wanganui cyclists have already had a taste of Lawrence’s form this season at the Shannon meeting on New Year’s Day, and he should prove a hard man to beat. The cycling will l e contested in two grades. Runners from the places named will also be competing, and keen races should result. In view of the many successes of the Wanganui runners over the Christmas period, it will be of interest to locai supporters to see them in action. Two ladies’ races appear on the programme, and these should be popular events. Field event competitors are to compete in the putting the shot and me long and hop, step and jump events. Given fine weather, an excellent night’s entertainment should be provided, and those who witnessed the meeting in December will agree that good running and cycling are fascinating sports.
