UNRULY ’VARSITY STUDENTS “ DOWN WITH BRITISH RULE ” MINISTER MAN-HANDLED

Mobs of students seized the occasion of the opening of the Internal Surgical Congress at Cairo for renewed antiBritish demonstrations. As delegates entered the University students shouted, “Down with Britain.” The British High Commissioner cancelled an engagement to attend in view uf t! e tension. The Prime Minister met a hostile reception outside the University and instructed his chauffeur to return. His car was damaged. The immediate object of the students’ demonstration was to extort from the Government an amnesty for their comrades who were arrested in connection with the riots preceding restoration of the Constitution, but in excitement bordering on hy.-teria ibis objective was forgotten ir a Howling of “Down with the English rrdpr* and the High Commissioner.” 'The students*manhandie-1 .h-j Minister of Justice. The majority dispersed quietly after the meeting, butt 2000 held their own meeting, delivering fiery speeches. An meeting of Cabinet is considering the next steps.
