Wellington, Wednesday, January 1. 1 p.m. General Situation. — An intense anti-cyclone still covers the Tasman Sea and extends on to the South Island, while pressure is lower to the north-east. Foiecast.— Winds: South-westerlies predominating over the South .Island, south tv south-east over the North Island, still strong at times in places about and north of Cook Strait; elsewhere, light to moderate. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rather rough to rough in the Cook Strait area and about East Cape; elsewhere, slight to mederate. Eastern Tas man: Moderate to strong south to south-east winds, moderate to rough seas. Weather: Some scattered showers at times on the east coast and in the far north of the North Island; otherwise, fine; temperatures rising. Sunset, to-dav; 7.54 p.m. Sunrise, to-morrow; 4.56 a.m.
