AUCKLAND POLICE
ACTIVITIES DURING YEAR SERIOUS CRIME REDUCED [ Per Press Association. 1 AUCKLAND, Dec, 30. Due to clever feats of detection by members of the plain clothes and uniform staffs at police quarters in Auckland, the year now closing, particularly the last few months, has been comparatively free from serious crime. With a few exceptions all o_ the serious crimes have been solved. •An unusual feature of the year has been the number of offences committed by juveniles and youths. Two murder charges only were dealt with by detectives—the case of a Maori, who was acquitted, and .that of Mareo, now awaiting trial for wife murder. A major inquiry was held concerning the finding in mysterious circumstances of the body of a young Maori girl under the Panmure wharf, but the mystery Wv.s unsolved despite Dominion-wide inquiries. The police believe that a couple of months ago they captured a daring house thief who had been operating successfully for several years.
