NEW YEAR MESSAGE
PEOPLE’S OPPORTUNITY PRIME MINISTER LOOKS AHEAD [ Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, Dec. 30. The following New Year message has been issued by the Prime Minister, Mr. M. J. Savage: “The dawn of a new year brings to the Government and people of the Dominion an opportunity to play a real part in moulding conditions around which history will ultimately be written. It will be our collective responsibility to see that science and invention are used to he full for the benefit of all the people, and that in a land of almost boundless possibilities the cry of the distressed will have been ended for ever. “No country has greater advantages to offer to its people than has New Zealand, and no people have ever had a greater opportunity to lead the world. A people who are by nature lovers of righteousness and inflexibly faithful to the principles of eternal justice, should find it easy to extend the hand of fellowship to each other and to practice in their everyday lives the principles of peace and goodwill. These are the main essentials required to abolish poverty from a land of plenty and for the establishment of ccc-nomic order and political freedom. “Early in the New Year the Gov-ernment-will begin to play its part in the economic transformation that is to be by passing legislation which will have for its object the protection of common interests and realisation of common hopes. We invite the co > operation of all. Unmistakable signs of returning confidence and goodwill are already in evidence, and before the dawn of another year it is safe to predict that we will have accomplished much, which will leave an indexable mark on the minds of th® people and establish memories of brighter days on behalf of the Government.
“I have pleasure in offering to all citizens this message of goodwill, and in t wishing them a bright and prosperous new year. ’ ’ j
