MANAWATU CONCLUDES
LAST DAY AT AWAPUNI TOUT LE MONDE WINS TOTALISATOR INCREASE. (By “Kestrel’’) The Manawatn Racing Club’s summer meting was concluded at Awapuni on Saturday in fine but overcast weather. The attendance was again satisfactory and the totalisator handled £15,549 10e, compared with £13,979 on the concluding day last year. The turnover for the meeting was £56,707, an increase of £7197 over the 1934 total of £49,510. The track was in excellent order. The principal event, the Liverpool Handicap, was won by Tout le Monde in a slashing finish, with Werohia a head away and Hunting Cat third, another head back. Slippery sprang a mild surprise by winning the Wood Handicap, and Land Tax repeated her first dry’s sprint effort by winning the Kaon Handicap. Royal Record Narrowly. Snowball and Pawky were best backed in the Apprentices’ Handicap, but neither of them was in the places, Royal Record beating Lord Moutoa by the narrowest of margins. Lord Moutoa. Royal Record, Snowball, Frugal and Cloudy Bay was the early order, but after going a couple of furlongs Snowball was taken into the lead, just ahead of Frugal, with Cloudy Bay, Lord Moutoa and Royal Record next. Crossing the top Royal Record moved up to challenge Lord Moutoa into the straight, nearest of the others being Frugal. Snowball an I Cloudy Bay. Royal Record and Lord Moutoa drew out in the run home. Royal Record getting the verdict by a head. Two lengths back was Petrarch, just ahead of Snowball, and Pawky and Rustem were next. Royal Papa’s First Win. Summer Hill was the Tiritea High Weight favourite, but at the finish Le just failed to catch Royal Papa, who thus scored his first win. Earl Colossus, Whetuma, Taumau and Royal Papa were the early leaders, but Taumau led out of the straight and along the back till Royal Papa ran to the front five furlongs from home, with Taumau, Earl Colossus, Summer Hill, Count Roussillon, Whetuma and Umpire following in that order. Royal Papa was nearly two lengths in front of Taumau and Whetuma, with Summer Hill disappointed in an effort to get through. In the run to the judge Roval Papa hung on to win by a short head from Summer Hill, with Umpire, wide out. a length away. Whetuma was a dose fourth and Taumau was next. Mala Beats Deficit. Maia was a little better backed than Dawning Light in the Juvenile Handicap, and at the finish Mala won narrowly from Deficit. Dawning Light and Starbeam were first to move, ahead of Deficit, Impersonator and Mala. The last-named moved up and crossing the top Dawning Light was attended by Patricia Holm, with Matara and Maia next, and Starbeam, Impersonator and Deficit following. Patricia Holm headed Dawning Light as they straightened up, but Mala and Deficit came through and Mala beat Deficit by a head, with Patricia Holm two lengths back, closely followed by Impersonator. Dawning Light was fifth and Laggard next to finish. Heads Between Three. Werohia carried £2OO more than Tout k Monde in the Liverpool Handicap, but at the finish the favourite went under by a head to Tout le Monde m a slashing finish. Speed, Aga Khan, Might, Princess Doren and Werohia were the leaders up the straight the first time, but Agi Khan dashed into the lead as they ran for the back, where he was followed by Eminent, Speed. Werohia, Might, Princess Doreen, Tout le Moqde and Daviatock in that order. Eminent then headed Aga Khan, with Werohia in close attendance and Speed, Might, Hunting Cat (moving fast) and Princess Doreen following. Eminent, Aga Khan, Werohia, Hunting Cat. Might, Kpeed and Tout le Monde was the order into the straight, hut over the final stages Tout le Monde finished fast and joined issue with Werohia and Hunting Cat also came into the picture, the tiio flashing past the judge in line with Tout le Monde a head in front of Were hia. with Hunting Cat a head away. A length back was Might, with Eminent, Davistock, and Aga Khnn next to . Stablemates Pay Dividend. Erua was’more than twice as well backed as Hine Ra in the "Westbury Handicap, but Hine Ra and Boomerang finished ahead of the favourite. The first to move out were Contact, Vonia Park and Bazaine. ahead of Hine Ra. Boomerang, La Crown and Erua. The favourite had made up a little ground at the half-mile, where Vonia Park led Bazaine, and Contact and Hine Ra were just ahead of Erua. Bazain and Vonia Park led Hine Ra. Contact. Erua and Boomerang into the straight, but Hine Ra came through to the lead and got home a head in front of Boomerang, with Erua a length back. Drumpeel was fourth and Gasnan and La Crown next to finish. Slippery's Good Price. Glenvane and After Money were fav<urnec in a good betting race for the Wood Handicap, hut Slippery, only sixth in favour, led the field home. Queen’s Pride was moving hack when the tapes went up and Slippery moved first from Gold Cure, Passion Fruit. Alby. Plaide, Glenvane and After Money. Gold Cure had joined Slippery entering the back, where Queen’s Pride had moved up quickly into third place, the favourite dropping back to last. Slippery and Gold Cure showed the way into the straight to Queen’s Pride, Alby ijnd After Money, bnt over the final stages Slippery stuck on to win by a neck from After Money, who was a length in front of Alby. Glenvane was fourth and Pladie and Passion Fruit were right up with them.
Land Tax Wins Again. Royal Routine carried £l5 more than Invoice in the Kawau Handicap, but Land Tax beat Invoice narrowly, with the favourite last. Symcony went into the lead from Land Tax. Fulojoy, Cullus, Royal Routine and Full Throttle, and after two furlongs Symcony had a break of four lengths on the field, with Land Tax, Royal Routine, Cullus, Full Throttle, Invoice and Wasteland the order of the others. On the borne turn Symcony was still four lengths ahead, but Cullus had joined Land Tax, with Invoice next and Royal Routine dropping back. Symcony compounded and was overhauled by Invoice and Land Tax over the final stages, Land Tax getting the verdict by a head, with Symcony a length back. Full Throttle was fourth, and after a gap came Wasteland, Movie Star and Hororata. Darecourt at Last. Silver Jest was twice as well backed as Darecourt and Colenso for the Christmas Handica,p in which the stablemates, Darecourt and Colenso, returned the dividends. Chief Ranger, Darecourt, Confiscation, Misurina, Finnesko and Barley Almond showed out first, with Silver Jest last. Misurina ran to the front at the five furlongs, showing the way to Darecourt, Chief Ranger, Barley, Almond, Finnesko, Confiscation and Colenso across the top. Into the straight Misurina was just ahead of Darecourt and Chief Ranger, with Moonbeam, Finnesko and Colenso, but Darecourt soon assumed the lead and held on to win by a head from his stablemate, Colenso, who finished fast. Chief Ranger was third half a length, away, and then came Barley Almond, Blue Tiger. Moonbeam and Finnesko, with Misurina and Silver Jest following. Details of results: — APPRENTICES’ HANDICAP.
