Kidnapping Hoax

YOUNG MAN’S CONFESSION SEEKER AFTER PUBLICITY [By Telegraph—Frees Association—Copyright! Received Dec. 29, 7.5 p.m. NEW YORK, L JC . 28. Amidst the constant alarms of kidnappings, which have become characteristic of America, the confession today to Department of Justice agents by Caleb Milne IV.. scion of one of America’s wealthiest families, that his alleged abduction last week attended by much publicity was only a hoax perpetrated bv himself in order to further his stage career, has caused a sensation. The 23-year-old actor and fiction writer told an amazing story of how he had careftillv planned his own disappearance. He prepared notes which caused his grandfather to hurry with 20,000 dollars ransom money to a rendezvous with the kidnappers at Philadelphia, and then shortly before he was found had put a tape round his 6wn eyes and mouth, tied himself up, and infli'eted many pin pricks upon his arms simulating hypodermic injections and the appearance of one who had been drugged. Finally he was “rescued” from a roadside ditch in Pennsylvania half frozen. Persistent inquiry by the New York police and. so-called G men, compelled Milne to make a written confession.
