Fine weather saw inter-club games further advanced over the week-end and but for three matches that have been held over all inter-club matches will conclude next Saturday and December 21 for those games just men--1 tioncd. 1 he results to date are as under:— Wanganui No. 1 will play off Wanganui 11. in the final of the men's A grade. St. John’s have won the ladies’ A grade.
Entries so far received for the North island Championships, which are to be held in Wanganui starting on Christmas Day, include those of Miss J. Ramsay (Auckland), Misses M. and N. Beverley (Matamata), and L. Smith (Auckland). Miss M. Beverley has just returned from a tennis trip to Australia with the New Zealand ladies’ team. On Saturday I had an enjoyable afternoon at Caius Club and found the. standard of play very high, especially among the men—Foote, Foster, Mailman, Lowe. Rountree and M. Pidwell are very evenly matched. Being a hard court club 1 found that most players use too much top spin on their ground strokes, but the height of the bounce of the ball often causes this. Pidwell, although handicapped by nut being able to usv his left hand, has the nicest style, but is not quite as forceful as Foote and Foster. The ladies arc much weaker this year owing to Misses Kjoss and Bramwell leaving tthe club. It is hoped, however, tu see several entrants from Caius for the N.I. championships. The Wanganui Minor Association is conducting a ladder and it stands as under:— J.—G. Foote (Caius). 2 S. Ambrose (Eastern). 3 L. Gould (Eastern). 4 G. Amundsen (C. of E.) 5 M. Pidwell (Caius). 6 J. Foster (Caius). 7 E. Lind (Cambridge Street). 8— Arch. Young (C. of E.). 9 Bishop (Eastern). 10— M. Rountree (Caius). 11— L. Mailman (Caius). 12— D. Munro (Eastern). 1— Miss L. Bishop (Eastern), 2 Miss Skelton (Eastern). 3 Mrs. Lind (Cambridge Street). 4 Mrs. Lockett (Knox). 5 Miss Rosemary (Eastern). 6 Miss T. V’in cent (Knox). 7 Miss T. Rountree (Knox). 8 — Mrs. Hair (C. of E.). 9 Miss Anderson (Eastern). 10 — Mrs. Elliott (Eastern). 11— Miss Johnson (Caius). :: The ladies’ matches have just started, but the best played so far was between Foote and Ambrose, the former just winning 9—7. 1 did not see the game but 1 believe it was an
