Rutheniums Revive Hussite Tradition In Simple Worship
PRAGUE. —In the section of Ruthonia which was a. battlefield during the Great War, and especially among the simple country population living along the River Uz, a religious movement is spreading which has much in common with the ancient Bohemian Church of Un it as Fratrum. its centre is the village of Volosanka. Far from being fanatical sectaries, lhe new brotherhood maintains a high standard of morals. They have given up smoking and drinking, and live in conformity with the spirit of the New Testament. Their leader is Peter Alusak, a Ruthcnian railway worker. The brethren meet in his cottage dressed in white linen trouosers and in big woollen coats. Their elder gives readings out oi an old Czech Bible and from a Russian prayerbook. The enthusiasm with which they celebrate the feast of John Hus Bay is a sign of their relationship to the Bohemian Hussite tradition. “What happened to your nice lodger, Mrs. Murphy?” ‘‘Oh, I had to get rid of him.
