ON AWAPUNI TRACKS PREPARING FOR FEILDING WINTRY CONDITIONS YESTERDAY 1 Special to ‘‘Chronicle”) PALMERSTON N., Nov. 26. I rack work was carried out at Awapuni this morning under conditions which would have done credit to the depth of winter. The only exception was the track, which was in perfect order %fter heavy showers during the night. The weather was favourable at • lawn but about-7 o’clock heavy clouds hanked up and there was drenching rain and quite a lot of hail. The flags were well over past the centre of the course proper ana some gcod times wer? recorded, a number of the performances being very pleasing. Mr W. IT. Gaisford's pair. Battle Pomp and King’s Lancer, were companions over six furlongs and Battle' Pomp held a slight advantage at the post after completing the journey in 1.221 —n0t a bad effort. Battle Pomp has improved a lot in looks during the last few weeks and he has grown into a very fine looking horse. King’s Lancer has been accepted for the Kowhai Hack, over a mile and a distance, at Feilding. La Crown is rapidly getting into shape for racing and she was given her first real gallop yesterday morning. R. Feasy sending her along over five furlongs. La Crown revelled in her task and she sprinted very smoothly to cut out the distance in 1.6 3-5. Mr N. Blackmore’s youngster. Laughing Lass, was sprinted with Jim Coyle’s two-year-old, Lavish, over four furlongs, and. getting a slight advantage at the start he retained it all the way, finishing a ne»ck in front. The time was 53 1-5 and they were going easily enough to suggest that this could have been bettered without much effort. Legatee, who comes in on the sec ond day of the Feilding meeting, was sprinted five furlongs and with L. H. Jones in the saddle he did better than in his gallops last week, completing the journev in 1.4 3-5. Severe, with S. Anderson up. followed Legatee a few moments later, her task being a similar one. She was quick;!y balanced and, in contrast to her sprint last week, she showed something of her obi form in completing I the distance in 1.5 3-5. She finished boldly and pulled up well. She has been accepted for the Flying Handicap on Saturday. She may not reproduce her bt'st at Feilding but she is a gallant filly and one never to be taken lightly. * Another interesting gallop was that in which Wagner, the speedy juvenile from Luke Wilson’s stable, was matched with Mirth. Mr Blackmore’s two-year-old daughter of Mandane. There was some doubt as to whether Mirth would go away with her companion, Wagner being a smart beginner, but the boys “wangled” it and they went a wav with Mirth about half a length to the good. They were together at the three but Mirth had her head in front as they raced into the straight and she kept it there to the finish, the time for the half-mile being 52 3-ssecs. The pair galloped smoothly throughout and they would have done better had thev been pushed. Vonia Park was two lengths clear of Kitty Quinn at the end of five furlongs covered in 1.7. Corroboree (L. H. Jones) was gal-
