A trenchant speech in which ho roundly criticised the ) Government and enunciated the Democrat platform was evidently enjoyed by the audience. Dr. Adams said that in view of the millions already spent on the South Main Trunk and Gisborne railways, and the fact that the interest on the present expenditure was almost equal to even the Rail- , ways Board’s estimate of the prospective loss on the running of the lines, botli would be imme--5 diately proceeded with if the ’ party came to power. Another ’ factor was that they would ab- ’ sorb some thousands of unem- , ployed. I In reply to a question at the conclusion, Dr. Adams said that his party would vote with the Labour Party not only to put the Government out, but to kick them oilt. A vote of thanks was passed.
