SANDON

HEALTH CAMP CAMPAIGN. COMMITTEE SET UP. A public meeting of settlers of the Sandon district was held at the offices of the Manawatu County Council on Thursday evening, Mr. J. H. Perrett, presiding. Mr. Pcrrett outlined the objects of the campaign and stated that he considered the project a very worthy one and should be fully supported by the public. Ho further stated that the aim was to raise £lO,OOO throughout New Zealand, which, he said he had no doubt would be exceeded. The postmaster, Air. W. J. Rowan, who attended the meeting as convener, explained the ways and means of furthering the campaign. Alessrs. E. J. Bowater and E. W. Tostevin endorsed the remarks of Air. Perrett. It was decided to convene a further meeting ou Alonday, Octc-ber 14, to make final arrangements. The following committee was appointed: —Mesdames W. J. Rowan, ’.l. A. Adams, Alisses J. AL Peuttie, AL Afacfarlane, G. Adams, Messrs. J. H. Perrett (chairman), Rev. IL E. I’urdyce, Alessrs. E. J. Bowater, F. W. Tostevin, K. Al. Pearce, y. L. Orr (secretary) and W. J. Rowan (treasurer). PERSONAL. The staff and employees of the Manawatu County Council assembled at the county offices on Wednesday aiternoon to bid farewell to two fellow employees, Alessrs. J. H. Smith and Frank Murphy. The county clerk, Air. A. K. Drew, on behalf ot all the employees, presented Air. Smith with a cigarette box and Air. Alurphy yuth a cigarette case. Mr. Drew congratulated both on their new appointments and wished them every success for the future. Air. H. V. Bond (county engineer) in endorsing Air. Drew’s remarks, said both were valued and loyal employees of tho council and in congratulating them on their new appointments expressed the hope that the future would hold bright prospects. Opportunity was taken by Air. S. L. Orr secretary of the Sandc-n Sports Chib, to present Air. Smith with a Loewe pipe. Air. Orr stated that the club greatly appreciated the work ho had done at the last sports meeting and regretted his leaving. The club wished him a bright future. J. H. SMITH AND F. J. MURPHY HONOURED At the Sandon Town Hall on Wednesday upwards of 200 people assembled at a dance to bid farewell to Air .1. JL Smith and Air Frank Murphy. The function was arranged by members of the football club, of which Alessrs Smith and Murphy were active members. Air. Smith took a keen interest in the club’s affairs last season, being one of the •club’s delegates on the Te Kawau Sub-union. Mr. Murphy has been associated with the chib for a number of years, latterly being captain and secretary. At a suitable juncture, Air E. J. Bowater presented each of the guests 17th. Aliss Tricker. playing a great uphill game, squared at the 18th and won on the 19th green. This is Aliss Tricker’s third victory in the senior grade. In the final of the junior champion ship Miss N. Wilson defeated Airs. AleKelvie 3 up and 1 to play.
