K.C.M.G., i’.V.O., was Vsbistant - Director of Naval Intelligence ISB6-99, captain (I Phaetun 1890 9.3, captain of Barlleur J 895-98, naval atlaehe at Washington ami -Pari'', A.D.C. to Queen \ ieloria 1597, Director of Naval .1 ntelligeio e 1599-1902, rearadmiral of the Alediterranenn Fleet 1902-04, ami second in command of the Channel I'h‘et 107-Os. Ho retired in P'l: 1 . His publications include “War al Sea.” “Modern Theory and Ancient I '.net itc, •’ and • • \ Eludv of War.’’
