VICTIMS IN AMERICA WIFE OF SECRETARY ICKES KILLED.

SANTE FE (New Mexico), Aug. 31. Mrs. Anna Wilmarth Ickes, aged 62, wife of the Secretary of the Interior, was killed and three companions seriously injured, when the light motorcar in which they were riding overturned after it was struck by another car, the driver of which did not stop. Mrs. Ickes suffered a fractured skull and died on the way to hospital. Ono of her companions was Mrs. Genevieve Forbes Herrick, a news paper woman and close friend of Mrs. Roosevelt. The collision occurred 30 miles north of Sante Fe. Mr. Ickes immediately left Washington by aeroplane for the scene of the accident. Ibrahim Seyfullah, attache at the Turkish Embassy, was serio isly injured. and Frank Allen, taximan, was injured when the hit-and-run driver, who has not been apprehended stru -k Mrs. Ickes’ car as it emerged from a steep-walled canyon by the Rio Gran ic River. CAUSE OF ACCIDENTS. NO HIT-AND-RUN MOTORIST. SANTE FE. Aug. 31. It as as later established that the ac cideut was caused by the sudden swerve of Airs. Ickes’ car instead of a hit-and-run motorist.
