TROTTING

THAMES CLUB LOSS ON MARCH MEETING. RLPOirr ON YEAR’S WORK. The annual report of the Thames [Trotting Club, Incorporated, to be presented to the annual meeting un Thursday, states that many factors contributed in making the, last, race •meeting, held un April 4 and 6, the most unsuccessful, resulting a loss of £H3 7s lid. For some inexplicable reason one race drew only two nominations, yet a few weeks later a similar class at another meeting drew 17. The influenza epidemic raging among horses in the, Auckland district, just, prior to the meeting had seriously affected the number of horses in training, and for this reason the nomination and acceptance lists were considerably smaller than those of previous years. With the race meeting showing a heavy lo.s and with depreciation £6l 8s 3d written off, the finances of the club have received a serious blow. However, an increase in the membership and the granting of the extra rebate by thp Government greatly assisted the club, and the loss on the year totalled £3lB 4s 3d. Government taxation amounted to £.1167 6s Id under all headings. To avoid the serious effect of clashing with the West Coast circuit the question of another date was gone into, and after consideration it has been decided to race on November 2, 1935. With the Waikato racing on October 19 and Auckland on October 26 and 28, a nice circuit will be established and should result in benefit to the club.
