GILT-EDGED WEAK LONDON. Aug. 31. The London Stock Exchange has been under the shadow of the ItaloAbyssinian dispute, which has caused general uneasiness. Signor Mussolini’s mid-week statement regarding the Italian attitude towards Great Britain had a slightly reassuring effect and the tone at the (dose of the market yesterday was more hopeful. Gilt-edged securities show a decline all round, not so much on account of selling but as a result of the absence of buying orders. This paucity of business is due mainly to a general tendency to await the meeting of the League of Nations on Wednesday before venturing into further commitments. In this stage of affairs it is satisfactory to note that Dominions Government stocks have generally niai.i t.aincd their position well, only slight declines in prices being recorded.
