BUTTER MARKET STRONG

KETAILERS RAISE PRICES CHEESE PROSPECTS IMPROVE Received Sept. 2, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 31. '‘Firm on short supplies.” Thus the London Provision Exchange described the butter market at close of business. New Zealand choicest was quoted at 97s to 98s per cwt; Australian “Kangaroo,” 96s to 975; and the demand is so good that both are expected to touch .100 s per cwt before long. Retailers have advanced their prices but consumption remains good.

The cheese market has also improved and with the seasonal decline in the English milk supplies and the consequent reduction of the British cheese output traders anticipate a steady market with the possibility of slightly higher prices.
