BENSON GATE TROPHY WANGANUI'S FINE WIN i.'Ol'liSK IiLCOHI) BEOKEX I’hc second “li'g” of the inter-club contest, for the Benson Gate trophy, an annual competition betwien the Wanganui and Masterton Harrier Clubs, was decided at. Maslerton on FLuurday ami resulted in a decisive win for Wanganui. On the aggregate of The two races, the first of watch was held at Wanganui two months ago, hie Wanganui Club won the trophy by 137 points and created a record by defeating the Wairarapa men over their own course. This wa? the first race on record in this contest, that. Wanganui has won on the visitors’ course ('or a 12man ream, by 131 points to 170, a majority of 39 points. For individual honours the Wanganui Club again secured a clean-c it victory, the first three men home belonging to this club, these being (’. Weller, x. Johnston and A. Bourgeois. By covering the course in 35min. ISsec., C. Weller established a course record for this race. He was followed a minute later by K. Johnston, A. Bourgeois following another ?>0 seconds further back. C. Talbot (Musterton), who was the first Wairarapa man to finish, was in fourth position, with G. Johnston (Wanganui) a close fifth. The 42 runners from the two clubs got awav to an even start. Leaving the Oval for the first time. C. Weller was in the lead from f‘. Talbot and D. Talbot ( Masterton), who were close on his heels. The course comprised two laps.
