The Hon. R. Masters was a guest at the New Rutland Hotel last night. Mr. W. T. Hornibrook formerly train running officer in the district traffic manager’s office at Auckland, has taken up his new duties as stationmaster at Ohakune. Mr. Alan Kippax. the Australian cricketer, has announced that he has regretfully declined an invitation to visit India to play cricl/t, because of business reasons. Mr. J. Brown, who has retired from the directorate of th e Thranaki Producers’ Freezing Works Company, had been a director of the company since its inception in 1901. He was chairman of directors from. 1925 to 1934. Mr. Hector Norrie has received notification of his appointment, as Native School teacher, at Parinui, Wanganui River district. He and his family are spending the school vacation with his parents, Rev. and Mrs. A. H. Norrie, of the Manse, Westmere. Captain J. G. Watson. and P» Dewhurst have been appointed nautical assessors to act with a magistrate in an inquiry to be held into the recent collision between the Breeze and the launch Bessie. The Minister of Marine said to-day that the inquiry would be held shortly at Timaru.— (Press Assn). Mr. J. C. Yeomans, manager of the Chelsea refinery of the Colonia] Sugar Refining Company, Limited, has been promoted to the position of manager of the company’s largest refinery at Pyrmont, Sydney, and will leave New Zealand in ‘time“ to take up his duties early in tDecember. Mr. Yeomans has been manager at Chelsea for about 10 years. Mr. A. Hegman. for many years manager of the British and Continental Piano Company, and for the last seven vears manager of the Auckland branch of Chas. Begg and Company. Limited, is retiring from business at the end of this month. Mr. T. L. Beaney, who for some years has been incharge of the sales department, has been appointed manager of the Auckland branch. Tributes to Sir Basil Blackett, the famous financial expert who was killed in a motoring accident in Germany on August 15, were paid at the opening session of the Financial Committee of the League of Nations, of which Sir Basil Blackett had been a member, by the president, M. Dayris (France), and the British members, Sir Otto Niemeyer and Sir Henry Strakosch. (British Official Wireless). Mr. D. McFarlane has been re-elected chairman of the Wanganui Girls’ College Board of Governors. Mr. McFarlane has been a member of the board for 20 years, during 18 of which he has been chairman. When the board met on Wednesday Mr. McFarlane expressed a wish to retire from the chair, but the members were unanimous that he should continue the good work he has been responsible for over so long a period. Tn accepting the position for a further term, he spoke of the status of the college, remarking that it was one of the out standing secondary schools in the southern hemisphere.
