SOFT WICKET AT FIOXL SOUTH AFRICA AND SUSSEX COUNTY’S LAST CHANCES [By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright! LONDON, Aug. 26. After rain had prevented play ou tn© first day the cricket, match between South Africa and Sussex was commenced to-day. The tourists had first use of a soft wicket and thev might have been dismissed cheaply had Sussex seized all the chances that were presented to them. The opening pair, Mitchell and Viljoen, were soon disposed of as ‘also was Wade, who was accounted for by the two Langridges. Rowan and Nourse made a useful stand, hut the bowlers wore always on top, until Langton and Dalton became associated in a partnership which added 69 runs for tho seventh wicket. The innings finally closed for 218/ Tate and J. Parks having taken three Wickets each. Sussex also found runs hard to ger when they commenced their reply, and at stumps they had scored 58 runs for the loss of four wrekots.
