A DAY OF PRAYER
Sify—May I make an appeal through your valuable columns, to all Christians who believe God is the same today as of old, that a day of prayer and tasting may be held for the avoidance of war? It is easier to make a general or concerted effort, but if that docs not come to pass in time, and individual effort can be made_ knowing that the same God who wondered that there was no intercessor (Isaih 59:16), and looked for a man to stand in the gap that He might spare the land —in vain (Ezekiel 22:30), will still listen to the weakest of His children who seek Him in spirit and in truth. The fast recommended in Isaiah 58 is ' the first requisite and abstainancc from food can follow or not as each able, but first let all return and take with us the words of Hosea .15:3,4 and Hosea will be fulfilled.—l am, etc. 1 •‘ONLY SURE HOPE.’”
