FARMING INDUSTRIES

THE IMPROVED OUTLOOK TRUSTEE AND AGENCY COY’S YEAR. [ Per Praia Association. ] WELLINGTON, Aug. 22. A final dividend of 2 J per cent., making a total dividend for the year of 4J per cunt., was declared <H, tiic forty-ninth annual general meeting of the Wellington investment Trustee and Agency Co., Ltd. The chairman of directors, Mr. G. G. Gibbes Watson, said he thought shareholders had no cause to be uissati&licd with the results of tne year’s operations. ‘‘As to prospects fur the coming year,” he concluded, ‘‘the iminedidate outlook in New Zealand is distinctly better than lor a considerable time past. Dairy produce has reached a price whicn, together with the 23 per cent, exchange thereon, should make it by no means unprofiable to the farmer who has paid anything like a prudent price for his land. Wool prospects appear better, and not only are moat prices satisfactory but our representatives overseas have achieved considerable success in their negotiations with the Imperial Government, rendering unlikely any restriction oi output for tho present. These factors all make for better conditions for the farming industry, and it is the success of that industry upon which New Zealand is dependent for its economic well being. These better conditions in that industry are already becoming manifest in city activities. In so far as stock exchange activity is a barometer, there are at the present time indications of increasing confidence on the part of investors. Better results are also indicated in the returns cf most trading companies. Having regard to all these factors we can, I think, confidently anticipate that conditions will continue to, improve during the coining years.”
