THE SHIPPING STRIKE SETTLEMENT EXPECTED Received Aug. 22, 12.35 a.m. MELBOURNE, Aug. 21. A tentative offer made by the shipowners to the seamen will be submitted to a mass meeting of seaweu at Sydney on Friday and is regarded as practically certain to be accepted The seamen’s representatives at the conference had been empowered to negotiate for the best possible terms for a settlement, concentrating chiefly on the remission of penalties imposed on certain members of the crews of the Murada, who were dismissed and debarred from further engagement on other vessels owing to their refusal to take the vessel to sea. The shipowners, ou their part, adhered to their original right of free selection of men at pick-ups, and reiterated their promise not to discriminate aaginst the Murada men in future calls for men, providing the strikers return to their ships.
