Aleteorulogical Office, Wellington, Wednesday, August 21, 4 p.m. General Situation. —Pressure is low to the east and has been falling again in the far south to'day. An intense anti-cyclone extends across the Tasman, its centre still being situated over South-eastern Australia. Forecast.—Winds: Strong south-westerly or southerly, of gale force in places, veering temporarily to westerly in the far south. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough to high. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong southwest winds with rough to high seas, but wind and sea gradually moderating. Weather: 4i>ld, changeable and squally, with further showers in most districts and in places hail. Snow on the ranges, also on some of the low country in eastern areas and the central plateau of the North Island. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending (J p.m. yesterday: Bright.sunshine, 3 hours 30 minutes. Rainfall, .54. Shade temperature, maximum, 47 deg. Fahr.; minimum, 45 deg. Fahr.
