GOLF A team of Patea ladies who journeyed to Eltham on Friday were unsuccessful in a challenge match with Eltham ladies for the TapJin Cup. Fairways were in a soggy state and the ball had to be teed up for each shot, although the greens were perfect. The games were thoroughly enjoyed, aud Patea returned home knowing that a friendly match between a team of ten of other Patea and Kltliani ladies had been won by Patea. Following are the results, the pairs playing for the Ta pl in Cup defended by Eltham ladies, who are mentioned first:— Mrs Casey lost to Aliss Gibson; Mrs Quin beat Airs Mcßae: Airs Norton beat Afiss N. Hurley; Aliss McGarry lost to Aliss Harris; Aliss Tayior beat Aliss Bourke; Aliss Symes beat Aire Baker. Ell ham 4 games, Patea 2 games. Misses Coleman and »Stanner<? lost to Alesdames Crawford and Glenny; Airs Stewart and Aliss Ritter beat Afiss Glenny and Mrs Roberts; Misses Cairncross and Carter Jost to Alesdames Haddow and 'Withers; Alisses Whiting and Harcourt lost to Alisses Carey and Petersen; Aliss Gibson and Airs Crawford halved with Alisses Honeyfield and Gibbings. Patea 3 games, Eltham J game, 1 halved. GENERAL The annual meeting of the Patea Bowling Club was held last Friday night, a report of which will be published to-morrow. Arbor Day was celebrated by the elder school children on Friday, when 69 trees were planted along one side of the road fronting the Domain, which is planned to form an avenue leading to the Domain gates. The three coastal boats which have been in port for the last few days of last week were able to leave for Wellington yesterday fully loaded, the three vessels being m.v. Inaha, m.v. Hawera, and m.v. Kapuni, the Hawera having only lately come into commission again after laying up at the Patea wharf during the slack dairy season, when there was not sufficient dairy produce being shipped.
