RATES IN WAITOTARA COUNTY

Sir.— As a ratepayer of the .Waitotara County Council I would like tu ask a few questions:— How can the raising of the rates be justified when a clerk, who is in receipt of a reasonable salary, is given a bonus of £25, while many of the ratepayers are not making bread and butter? Is not that giving away the ratepay e r.« ’ mo nay _ls it not a luxury in these hard times to allow £5O for tree planting? What extra work has been done that higher rates should be demanded Is there not an Act of Parliament | that makes members of a board liable if expenditure exceeds income? It would be wise of tho councillors to sec that tho estimates are reduced and work in the interests of tho ratepayers.—! am, etc., “RATEPAY EIL”
