SEARCHERS RETURN
No Sign of Lost Aviator INVESTIGATION BY ’PLANE, MAP AND FOOD MISSING / ] Per Press Association. F ' HASTINGS, Aug. 5. N The search party which investigate! the discovery of Mr Hamish Armstrong’s ’plane, had to return to the base about 3 o’clock this afternoon on account of the weather conditions. They reported that the weather was so bad and the snow so deep that little progress could be made. The party was able to reach the ’plane, where they took Mr Armstrong’s suitcase out, and it was evident that its contents, shoes and other articles, had not been touched by him. There, was no sign of the food which it is believed he carried with him. They found in the ’plane a map of the South Island, and as it is understood there was with it a map of the North Island, it is probable that Mr Armstrong took the latter map with him in an endeavour to find his way back to habitated country. The search party has a base at Mr D. A. Preston's farm at Whakarara, but they will not go out to-morrow yless the weather improves in the meantime. Judications were to-day that bad weather was developing over the hills, with mist and rain.
