I President Miklas opened the Grossglockner motor road, the highest in Europe, including a tunnel under Hochter, 8000 feet above sea level. .It took live years to construct and cost £1,000,000. It is 30 miles long and links Italy and Bavaria, via Austria, and is intended to assist tourist traffic. It is also valuable strategically, the. foundations being sufficiently sfong to support the transport of heavy guns. The highest point is occupied by a memorial to Dr. Dolifuss. President Milkas said that the highway proved Austria’s determination tn maintain her own identity' ia an anxious and restless Europe.
