VICTIM OF VENDETTA

DEAN COLLAPSES AT ALTAR ( SENSATION IN CATHEDRAL j DEADLY ACID IN CHALICE i (By Telegraph - Press Association—Copyright) I 1 LONDON, Aug. 1. Thu Daily Herald’s Rome corres- , pondent says that while the congregation in the Cathedral Church of St. Augustine, Rome, were kneeling, ami the priest, the Dean of Cremona, was partaking of the consecrated elements, they were horrified to see him fall on the altar steps writhing in pain and still clasping the chalice. The altar steps were spattered with blood. It was discovered that the chalice had been filled with a solution of hydrocyanic acid instead of wine. The police believe that the Dean was the victim of a vendetta. Two men have been detained. It is recalled that the Bishop of Cremona was recently shot while participating in a procession in the streets.
