WANGANUI CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS AT BELMONT FIRST QUALIFYING BOUND The first qualifying round of .the Wanganui Goll Club's 1935 championships was played at Belmont on Saturday in ideal weather. F. C. Hutchison and J. Goss, each with 76, returned the best cards and consequently lead for the Powdrell Cup, which is held by the player with the best aggregate gross score for the three qualifying rounds. For the Captain’s Prize, for the player with the best aggregate net score for two out of the three rounds, T. Wilberfoss with a nett 66 holds the lead, closeiy followed by J. B. Baird’s net 67 and 8. Friend, B. Lindsay aaid P. Saunders with a net 68 each. No doubt on account of the perfect weather and good conditions, some very good scores were returned by the long handicap players. L Wilberfoss, jwith a gross 89, qualifies so far top in the Junior, third in the Middleweight, and just missed by one stroke being in the tie for 16th place in the Senior Championship. E. Ziesler 83 and J. B. Jack 88 were first and second respectively and fill 11th and 16th places respectively in the senior. In addition to T. Wilberfoss J. Purcell with a 93 qualified in the Middleweight. With two rounds still to be played there will be many changes when the final round is played. Following are the leading scores; — Senior F. C.
