QUIST AND TURNBULL PRACTICE FOR BRITISH PAIR TUCKEY IMPROVING. (By Telegraph—Ptew Association— Copyright) LONDON, July 19. In the tennis match which is being playcil at Eastbourne on Davis Cup lines, the doubles resulted:— A. K_ Quist and D. P. Turnbull (Aus tralia) defeated P. Hughes and C. R. I). Turkey (Britain) 3—6, 6—3, B—6, 6—l. Turnbull was the best of the four, lie served and smashed with savage accuracy. The Australians were generally super '.or in volleying and smashing. Tuckey, England’s new' Davis Cup recruit, is playing much better with added experience. He is serving powerfully and his ground strokes have improved.

The profits, without the match now- bring played at Eastbourne, where most of the seats have been sold, should approach £2OOO sterling. At, the Eastbourne tennis tournament Crawford defeated Austin 6—2, 6 —4, 3—6—3. The Perry v. McGrath match resulted 2 —6, 6—2, 3—l (abandoned on account of rain). Full of toefidence after defeating Perry, Crawford drove deeply and powerfully, served well and volleyed more often than usual. Altogether- he overshadowed the Englishman’s stylish but less virile game. Perry and McGrath fought at a great pace. McGrath, in the first >et, hammered backhand drives straight down the line with remarkable accuracy, but Perry, intensifying his boisteious belligerence, overwhelmingly won the second. AT WIMBEEDON DAVIS CUP INTER-ZONE r.S.A. LEADS GERMANY Received July 21. 7.5 p.m. LONDON, July 20. At Wimbledon in the Davis Cup inter-zone final, Budge defeated Henkel 7 —5, 11. —9, 6—B, 6—l. It was rather a tame encounter, Henkel playing a defensive game throughout. Budge made many errors through impatience. Rain caused a postponement of the von Cramm-Allison match.
