FRENCH NAVY
NEW CRUISER LAUNCHED. PARIS, July 17. A message from St. Nazaire states that the second-class cruiser Marseilles was launched in the presence of members of Cabinet. Her displacement is 7720 tons, length 590 feet, speed 32 knots. She will carry nine guns, eight anti-aircraft guns, four torpedo tubes, and a catapult for the projection of seaplanes. M. Pietri at Yho subsequent dinner expressed satisfaction with France’s recent naval progress, and pointed out that her submarines were the most numerous and her destroyers tho swiftest in the world. The best way for a nation to keep its friends was to be their equal.
