Far West, at Dubbo. Saturday, July 27 v. N.S.W., at Sydney. Wednesday, July 31 v. Western Districts at Bathurst. On August 3 the Alaoris will play Victoria at Melbourne, and will then return to Sydney to play N.S.W'. on August 5 aud 10.

Forward as Full-back. A. Hodgson, that great Australian forward, played full-back for his club on June 29. He made a very fair job of the position, which he had never occupied before. Jt was a ’case of not lolling the old club (Manly) down when its first team was temoprarily depleted in talent by influenza. “Birdie" Beaten. L. P. Gehrig bad an extraordinary experience at Mona \ ale (Sydney) on June 23. In a match with U. 11. Kunyon he holed in two strokes at the 110 ?ards sixth, but lusc the hole, as Kenyon holed from the tee. Another holc-in one worth recording happened at the municipal links at Northbridge. 1.. G. Jiu-ach, a. beginner, having his first round uu Ihe course, holed •'<t the eighth (146 yards). This was Northbridge. Australian Open Golf. A spice of speculation has cm cred into the matter uf the Australian upon golf title, which is to be played at Adelaide on August 22, 23 and 21. Will the prufosionajs take a similar stand to that taken by the New South Wales professionals in Queensland recently? Up over the border the pros, refused to play for purses put up f"T professionals because the clubs which were giving the money permitted professional who was not a member of the I'rol’esslfonal.s’ Association to compete. It will be interesting to see H they will adopt the same stand in regard to the open. It, is not likely that they will, because winning the, open is something in the way oi an asset, whereas up in Queensland the prizes amounted to unly a. few pounds sterling. Still, the principle is the same. The conditions for the open provide than entries from professionals may be made through the secretaries of their various State associations, but an entry from a professional “who has been properly accredited by a g'dl club or any other responsible body or persons may be accepted.” Ihe New South Wales professionals, who in eluded AV. Golger, Australian open champion, and M. L. Kelly, professional chamj'ion of Australia, had a bite out of the small dog in Queens land. Will thrv tak e uu the bigger one in Adelaide.’ 4i 4- “b Hemi May Play for Ratana. T hat .spetacular \\ ntiarapa .Rugby lull back J. Heun, whu is now "'lit the Maori team in Australia, may [day fcr the .Ratana Club in Wanganui on li> return. Tonnuy Chase, the Maori team's five eighth, is a member of the Ratana U'iub. along with several oihei Maoris who have <<mie from far afield lo live at the quaint native settlement. HlioidJ Hemi transfer his abode as : uggested, he will play full-back lor Ralana, and Chase, who holds that position al present, will become fiveeighth, or, if the need arises, wing three-quarter. He is sufficiently versatilo to play in any of three pusit ions.

* ‘Discovered” McuorXiniiaie. Walter .Miller, whose sponsoring oi Earl McCready as British Empire heavyweight wrestling champion, is at present the chief topic iu wrestling circles m New Zealand, has dabbled manv things including the promoting business, while he has been manager ’ of a cuuple of boxers of note. For in- ' stance, he was manager uf Alike Cu'-I bons fur a time and later he was responsible fur “discovering” Don Ale | Corkiiidalc. the South Alncan heavy-1 weight boxer, whu, following trouble; with his heart, is now reported to be! endeavouring lo stage a “come-back' j in England, wheic he has been resident | lor a number ol years. Alillcr has an interesting story lo tell of the Gaining li ibils of the »south Alncan. “Jove he was a lazy guy,” said Alillcr. “Ho was always in bed sleeping or rCsiiiig when he should have been out walking and I could never go far fro’U our lodgings for fear he might ciawd into bed. Due day I was out and came back unexpectedly to find him fast a.-lcvp. Uf course .1. woke him up and fold him to get out into the atr. He was quMo agreeable and went out on to i the- ro.i'l. L thought my worries were ended for a few hours but I changed] my mind when a few minutes later 1 j espied him creeping in through tliei back door.’’ I What Petersen Misses. Bra'block has expressed bis willing-1 ncss to visit England and defend his title against Jack Petersen. N’ow that Neu sc I has again licked the British champion the chances are that Mr. Braddock will remain in New York and concentrate on the tSehmeling angle. Baer and Louis —Braddock and Schmeiing and the winners in a title match wounds good.
