HOSPITAL BOARD. AMBULANCE SCHEME FURTHERED. At the monthly meeting of the Patea Hospital Board on Tuesday the chairman (Mr C. K. Honeyfield), reported that in connection with the project for an ambulance service in the board’< district, there had been no opportunity during the month to confer with the Wanganui authorities, but this was arranged for next day (Wednesday). A report would be submitted at the August meeting of the board. A letter was received from the St., John’s Ambulance, Wanganui, stating | that they favoured an agreement being I arranged for the use of the ambulance in the board’s district. The Department of Health advised that the appointment of those members nominated by the County Council to the board had been approved by the Minister. 'l'he members referred to were Messrs Back, Campbell, Gibbs, Lupton, Watt and Watkins. Those appointments were made by the Patea County Council in the absence of nominations being received at the closing date. The Minister of Health wrote signifying approval to the board securing an overdraft of £750 from July to September. The chairmen, Messrs; Christensen, Gibbs and Watkins were appointed a committee to consider the accounts with the object of writing off those which were considered impossible to collect, and to arrange for the collection of the others. The medical superintendent (Dr. XV. T. Simpson) reported that the month! of June had been a busy month, show ing an increase in patients. At the beginning of the month there were 30 patients in the hospital. During the month 27 patients had been admitted, 25 discharged, leaving a total of 32 remaining at the beginning of July. The superintendent’s recommendation that two new beds be purchased was agreed to. The month of June had been a very busy one, thp matron (Miss A. L. Harris) reported. Miss Lambie, Director of Nursing, had visited the hospital on a visit of inspection and had re- ' ported that everything appeared to be in good order. Air. C. R. Honeyfield was re-e’ected chairman for the ensuing three years. In returning thanks for his re election, | Mr. Honeyfield extended congratula j j tions to the members of the old board | who had been re-elected, and welcomed ■ the new members. He also voiced the congratulat ions of the board to A! r. A. T. Christensen on being the recipient of the King’s Jubilee medal. Those present at the meeting were Messrs. C. R. Honeyfield, W. H. Watkins. W. Aaek, A. T. Christensen, J. Lupton. R. J. Watt, A. J. Gibbs, C. K. Campbell and H. Middleton.
