THE ENGINEER'S BEPORT. The engineer to the Waitutara Coun* ty Council reported to last Monday’s meeting as follows, covering the work done during .lune: Auckland-Wellington Highway.—The contract, for metalling in miles 16 aud 17 has been suspended to allow the Oamarunui pit to be stripped of overburden and the metal face properly benched, blow progress was made with the delivery of metal to tho spreading lace. Two large slips lecenlly occurred'in mile .13, as the hillsale is sliding, it is not proposed to dear sufficient spoil to enable traffic to pass safely. The roadway has been metal patched and graded. The Wanganui Beautifying Society has donated 60 trees comprising chestnut, oaks, syVumores, ash and silver birches, these have been planted at Kai Iwi and Maxwell. “Brunswick - Westmere Riding. There have been a considerable number of slips on Riding roads; Die riverbank, Tokomaru East and West, Bruns-wick-Western Line roads suffered most. A large wooden culvert across the Kai Iwi Valley road collapsed and was replaced by three feet diameter concrete pipes. The Blueskin and Rapanu highways and Brunswick road were metal pal' hed. The Springvale-Fran-cis, Heads Alosston, Rapanui highways, i Peat, Montgomery, Smith, Russell, Waitai, Manuka. Taylor, Belmont, Westmere, Cameron, Livingstone ami Watt, roads and Clarkson Avenue were graded. “Waitotara Riding.— Tho Rangl-tain-Watershed and Waitotara Valley Highways, I’ukcriniu, Bushy Park and Rangitatau West, roads were graded Along the Rangitatau Watershed high | way slips were cleared, fern was cti ■ and water tables and drains wen I'ieanod. Slips were cleared along tb< Waitotara Valley Highway, Pukerimu Junclion and Rangitatau West roads, The Bushy Park- and Maxwell station roads were metal patched. The widening of the Waitotara Valiev Highway near the Ohie stream, continues to b< carried out by Maori relief workers. “Alosston Riding.—The SprinevaleFranc’s, Heads, Mosston Highways, I’itzherbert and Jones Avenue, Parsons and B.tston Streets, Lincoln, Surrey. Peakes, Fox and Cavershaw road” were graded. I’itzherbert Avenue ami Parsons Htreels were metal patched the balance of patching will bo completed when line weather eventuates. “Tokomaru Riding.—Slips were j cleared along the Rangitatau-Watcr-shed Highway, Ahu Ahu, Kauarapaoa and Watershed roads. About fiv< miles at the top end of the Ahu Aht road has been cleared of slips, to allov light vehicles to pass.
